CCCUE Regular Meeting
Thursday, February 15, 2001
2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Room 4117
1. Retirement Committee Ric Deschler
Ric attended the January 20 CFT Retirement Committee meeting in Manhattan Beach. The committee is working on two issues:
· PERS funds are currently healthy. The committee will sponsor legislation to increase the purchasing power protection ceiling from 75% to 80%. It protects your purchasing power of retirement dollars being eroded due to inflation.
· Retirement contribution rate decrease. Originally the employee contributed 7% of their pay and the college matched that amount. A few years ago, PERS finances were so strong they were able to notify the district that they were no longer required to contribute matching funds.
2. COPE Fund Delfina Medina, Ric Deschler
It was moved by Ric Deschler and seconded by Edith Tway to assign the position of chair of the Cope committee to Delfina Medina. Motion was passed by all members present. Delfina appointed Julianne Jackson as a committee member. Signatory powers will pass to Delfina Medina and Julianne Jackson.
Delfina reviewed the charge for COPE (Committee On Political Education). Members interested in contributing through payroll deduction or a one-time-only check can contact Delfina.
3. Staff Development Task Force Lorene Cabrera
Lorene reported on the Staff Development Task Force. Feedback given to the classified members of the committee reflected some of the same types of training weve had in the past. After much discussion regarding Cuestas culture and the need for universal training that includes managers, it was agreed that some type of training that reflects the interest-based bargaining ideology should be embraced.
4. Union Advocacy Delfina Medina
The Tri-Counties Central Labor Councils next meeting date is Tuesday, April 10, 2001. The labor council consists of all types of unions, and as a part of the AFT/CFT, our classified union has the right to participate in central labor council. The meetings, that last about one hour, once a month consist of updating each other regarding working conditions and contracts, assist on strikes, and helping to bring labor issues to the public. Labor council is there to assist us. The labor council provides an important communication link for all unions.
Delfina is forming a Welcome Committee for new employees. The committee will meet once a month, the second Friday at 12:30 in Delfinas office to arrange packets that contain important information for new employees. Edith Tway volunteered to assist Delfina. More helping hands would be appreciated.
5. Job Description Review Committee Kathy Thorp
The executive board appointed Kathy Thorp chair of the new Job Description Review Committee that will meet twice a month. The committees responsibilities will consist of reviewing new and revised job descriptions and submitting recommendations to referring to the scope of duties/responsibilities and salary placement.
The next meeting will be held March 15 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in Room 4117. Formation of an elections committee will be on the agenda.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:30.
Respectfully submitted,
